I am high schooler who battles anxiety. Over a year ago my siblings had purchased me a Giving Key with the word BREATHE on it. I wore it as a daily reminder to take things one step at a time and just breathe. Whenever I needed a moment to get away from the chaos around me, I would hold my key and take deep breaths. Now, I'm handling my anxiety really well and I don't need the message as much. I wanted to give away my key to someone who needs the message but I didn't know who or when.
Within recent months, I began tutoring one of my coworkers. For her, this year was nothing what she had planned. Her world came crashing down and she had to restart. But that never stopped her from always having a smile on her face. I never really understood how bad things were for her until recently. She began expressing to me that she battles with anxiety and depression. She began telling me more about how she is scared and worried for the future.
And that's when I knew.
Standing at work, I took off my key and put it around her neck. I told her that whenever she gets scared or worried, take a moment and breathe. Remember that everything happens for a reason and in the end, it will all work out exactly how it was suppose to.
