Community for Quinn

I received this key engraved with the word "Community," after an adventure on the 'Do Good Bus,' helping a local charity known as The Mustard Seed. Tasked with passing it to the person most in need of the word, I would be hard pressed to make a decision. Who was most in need of it? A lover? A politician? The head of a corporation who had forgotten the word's meaning? Voices in my mind would echo different ideas, but none seemed to fit. I set the key aside in my lucky hat so it would be on my mind, and celebrated Mother's Day weekend with my family, including my daughter who sadly I don't get to spend enough time with, as her mother and I have been at odds as of late. It was in this time that the choice would dawn on me.

We are shaped by the people we surround ourselves with, for better or for worse. The old saying holds true: "It takes a village to raise a child." That being said, I pass this key of "community" to my daughter, Quinn, with my vow to never leave her alone in this world, to make sure she grows up with the best of people around her so she has the best of influences to shape her, and to do everything in my power to see that she is ensured a better life. I give her this key to the future and with it, my hope.
