I ordered my Giving Key about 8 months ago during a time when I felt overwhelmed with all the decisions and events going on in my life. Work, my relationship, family and the constant effort to please everyone around me was taking me further and further away from the person I have worked so hard to become. “Harmony,” was the perfect choice for my giving key; a constant reminder to find balance in everything, especially in oneself. I wore my necklace everyday and wondered who would someday be the holder of this key that had pretty much become a part of me. It wasn’t until a couple days ago that I found the perfect person.
My best friend, someone I look up to in so many ways, and who serves as the big brother I’ve never had, lost his mother a week ago due to very unfortunate circumstances. Being someone who also lost his sister at a very young age and had to bear witness to the dire effects a tragedy like this can have on a family, it amazes me how strong, wise and understanding a person he has become at the ripe age of 28. Also, having recently begun to mend the broken relationship with his mother after many years, I can only imagine how disheartening her passing has been for him. My key immediately took on a new meaning, not only as a reminder of balance and peace in oneself, but also in life. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and although life is overwhelming today, each day will get a little easier.
I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving, and I can only hope this key will give him as much strength as it has given me. My new key is on its way, and I can’t wait to pay it forward and give to the next friend or stranger.
